Cycle Paths and Bike-Friendly Routes

In 2022, a study conducted by Bike2Work, Norwich placed second in the UK cities with the most cycle routes. With a whopping 1,574 cycle routes around the city, it is no surprise that so many of our residents are ditching their cars and commuting around the city on two wheels.

The Norwich Cycle Map features colour-coded Pedalways that offer comprehensive cycling networks within and around the city, connecting various suburbs and key locations. These clear routes make it easy for any commuter to plan their journey.

Bus Routes and Schedules

With the city transitioning to electric buses, commuting to work this way, appears to be both eco- friendly and quick. The extensive bus routes that spans across various locations such as the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Broadland Business Park, Norwich Rail Station, and more, connects all sides of Norwich.

The buses have a regular timetable and passengers can use journey planning apps such as Travel Norfolk to plan the most time efficient journey to work and back.

Walking Routes

Norwich boasts some of the UK’s most beautiful scenic walking routes in and around the city. Even though these routes are perfect for a weekend stroll and wander, they are also suitable for your daily commute.

Walk along the leafy trail of Marriott’s Way, or along the water on Riverside walk. You can also cross the bridge to Hellesdon Road or wander by Cringleford through Yare valley.

If you live along these routes, join the path for a very picturesque commute.

Tips for Sustainable Commuting

Sustainable commuting doesn’t have to be limiting. It’s good to remember to opt for walking, cycling or public transport when you can, however eliminating commuting via car can be a challenge for those longer trips. Good news though; there are some proactive changes you can make. Liftshare is a Norwich based Social Enterprise, helping people travel to the same location whilst sharing a car. It’s an affordable solution to make journeys to work whilst saving money and the environment.

In line with the city’s vision, by prioritising shared, clean, active, and accessible travel options, Norwich aims to create a thriving urban environment where sustainable transport is the preferred choice for journeys within the city and its surrounding areas.
