Health & Life Sciences
Norwich is home to the Norfolk and Norwich University (NNUH) Hospital; one of the biggest trusts in the country, employing more than 10,000 staff. The NNUH, along with University of East Anglia (UEA), Earlham Institute, Quadram Institute, John Innes Centre and the Sainsbury Laboratory make up Norwich Research Park; one of the largest single-site concentrations of research in food, genomics and health in Europe, with world-leading credentials.
Norwich Research Park hosts over 40 companies as tenants. Many of these were formed from research developed at the world-leading institutes located at the Park. The community includes 30,000 talented people, including 3,000 scientists and clinicians. As well as the NNUH and UEA, institutions located at Norwich Research Park include the John Innes Centre, Earlham Institute, Quadram Institute and The Sainsbury Laboratory.
Healthcare professionals are spoilt for choice in Norwich and the surrounding areas. Over 20,000 people work for the NHS in Norfolk, including clinicians like doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists, as well as corporate support functions like HR, Finance, IT, and Marketing. The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is one of three acute hospitals in Norfolk (alongside the James Paget in Gorleston, and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn). Within Norwich, community healthcare is provided by Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust (NCH&C) and mental health services are provided by Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT).
With these world-leading institutions on our doorstep, Norwich is the place for health and life science business and professionals to realise their full potential. Come and join our community of ambitious, innovative and like-minded scientists.
Margie’s Relocation Story
In 2018, biologist Margie was looking to leave Portugal for a new job focused on sustainability. After watching a video about Norwich-based start-up Colorifix, she was speechless. She applied to join the team, despite knowing nothing about the place it was based, and got the job. Nearly four years later, the business is thriving – and she can’t get enough of life in her new home, especially the market.
